OxTalks will soon be transitioning to Oxford Events (full details are available on the Staff Gateway). A two-week publishing freeze is expected in early Hilary to allow all events to be migrated to the new platform. During this period, you will not be able to submit or edit events on OxTalks. Being Human Café – Vaccination: Old Worlds, New Worlds
Vaccines dominate the news right now. Vaccine development represents a possible exit strategy from the pandemic, conjuring up both hope and fear. But how did we get here? Featuring a mix of lightning talks and spoken word performance, come and join us for a chat about the history of vaccination. Find out about the history of infectious diseases and how vaccination was a medical tool mired in controversy from its beginning. Enter the strange world of Victorian anti-vaccination ballads. And learn more about how nineteenth-century newspapers and magazines carried word of vaccination, shaping public views about its practice.
