OxTalks is Changing
OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
Balliol Online Lecture: 'Symmetries in Physics'
It is not an exaggeration to say that the single most important concept in our modern understanding of physics is that of symmetries. Whether in Newtonian mechanics, Einstein’s relativistic theories, or modern quantum field theory, symmetry principles are the essential ingredient to facilitate descriptive and predictive models of “nature”. In this Balliol Online Lecture, Dr Ling Lin, Walker Early Career Fellow in Mathematical Physics at Balliol College, will explore the basic ideas of symmetries and their unreasonable effectiveness in theoretical physics.
