OxTalks will soon be transitioning to Oxford Events (full details are available on the Staff Gateway). A two-week publishing freeze is expected to start before the end of Hilary Term to allow all future events to be migrated to the new platform. During this period, you will not be able to submit or edit events on OxTalks. The exact freeze dates will be confirmed on the Staff Gateway and via email to identified OxTalks users.

Batteries are key technologies for energy storage, underpinning the energy and transport transitions needed for decarbonisation. However, there are a number of environmental impacts associated with battery production, use and eventual disposal.
This talk will give a brief introduction to lithium-ion batteries and the resources required to make them, as well as the main sustainability issues posed by this technology across its supply chain, particularly considering the future scale of the battery industry. The talk will conclude with the main actions that the battery industry either is taking or needs to take, to minimise its environmental impact.
