Dr Deborah Rooke is a Senior Associate of OCHJS, Associate Lecturer in Old Testament Hermeneutics at Regent’s Park College, and Visiting Tutor in Old Testament at St Stephen’s House, Oxford. She has held lectureships at the University of Wales, Lampeter and King’s College London. She has published on a wide range of subjects in the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible area, including cult, ritual and law; gender and sexuality in the Hebrew Bible; ad Handel’s oratorios and the Old Testament. The present paper is based on an article about Esther in film, which is to be published in the Bloomsbury handbook of the Bible in film this autumn.
