OxTalks is Changing
OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.

Poverty and the SDGs: Engaging the UK Parliament

How can research centres and departments at Oxford contribute to the work of parliamentary select committees? How are these engagement opportunities shared, and what goes into preparing written and oral evidence submissions?
This event provides a recent case study of The Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative’s (OPHI) engagement with the UK International Development Committee – the Commons Select Committee responsible for scrutiny of UK aid and Official Development Assistance (ODA) expenditure. In this session, OPHI Events and Communications Officer Kelly-Ann Fonderson will share how the team leveraged opportunities to contribute research on multidimensional poverty.
Poverty goes beyond lacking income and has many dimensions. The concept of multidimensional poverty recognises that poverty includes overlapping deprivations in areas of life including education, healthcare and low standards of living. The global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) developed by the Oxford Poverty Human Development Initiative (OPHI) and the UNDP measures the non-monetary aspects of extreme poverty around the world.
This event will be especially valuable for research support colleagues across Oxford’s divisions who want to learn more about identifying and brokering policy engagement opportunities with UK Parliament. Researchers with an interest in international development and aid policy are also encouraged to attend For those attending in person, lunch will be provided after the the presentation and Q&A session.
