Kateryna Yushchenko served as First Lady from 2005-2010. Yushchenko was born in the United States to Ukrainian immigrants who had been taken out of Ukraine as slave laborers during WWII. After receiving a Bachelors in International Economics at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Kateryna served in various positions in The White House, Departments of State and Treasury and the Joint Economic Committee of Congress. She moved to Ukraine in 1991. She founded and worked at the US-Ukraine Foundation, then she was the Country Director for KPMG Barents Group, which provided technical advice in banking, fiscal and monetary reform to the Ukrainian government. As First Lady, she concentrated on projects to promote grassroots civic involvement in improving health, education and the arts. She taught Corporate Social Responsibility at the Ukrainian Banking University from 2014 to 2018. She now works diligently to increase global support for Ukraine and its reconstruction.
