Environmental factors play critical roles in cellular events such as neurogenesis, angiogenesis, neuronal migration, and axonal growth. Zika virus has been recently associated with brain malformations. Using brain organoids and in vivo models, new advances have been made in the understanding of critical stages and mechanisms by which Zika virus act during brain development.
