OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
Award-winning Zimbabwean journalist, documentary maker and Nieman fellow Hopewell Chin’ono was arrested twice in 2020: first on charges of inciting violence after reporting how government officials were profiting from deals to secure Covid-19 supplies, and again for sending a tweet that “impaired the dignity” of Zimbabwe’s Chief Justice. For these crimes, he spent six weeks in an overcrowded jail cell in Harare – an injustice that inspired the viral hashtag #ZimbabweanLivesMatter. He joins us on the 3rd February to speak about press freedom in Zimbabwe, and the role of journalists in exposing corruption.
