Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. From now until the launch of Oxford Events, new events cannot be published or edited on OxTalks while all existing records are migrated to the new platform. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period.
From 16th, Oxford Events will launch on a new website: events.ox.ac.uk, and event submissions will resume. You will need a Halo login to submit events. Full details are available on the Staff Gateway.
In our January event, David Bock (Idaho & Jesus 1967), in conversation with Samantha O’Sullivan (DC & Magdalen 2022), will discuss his book The Diary of a Reluctant Atheist.
David R Bock has had career in international finance and development, investment banking, healthcare, private equity, and investment management. David joined McKinsey and Co. out of graduate school, working on client engagements in strategy, M&A, healthcare, and public administration, serving clients in the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, France, Tanzania and the US. He joined the World Bank in 1974, working on the Bank’s policy, strategy, financing and lending operations. In the mid-90s, David led the emerging markets corporate finance practice for a major investment bank in London. He has served as a corporate director for investment/mutual fund companies, as CFO for a public health care services company, and was a long-time director of a low-income housing finance company.
David is the author of “The Diary of a Reluctant Atheist,” which tells the story of his journey from atheism to Christian faith. He regularly leads Bible studies and has read extensively on Christian doctrine, theology, apologetics, history, and evangelism.
David has a BA in Philosophy from the University of Washington and a BPhil in Economics from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
Samantha O’Sullivan is a Rhodes scholar-in-residence reading for a DPhil in Theoretical Physics at Magdalen College. Her research uses algorithmic information theory to predict the evolution of biological systems. Sam received her Bachelor of Arts in Physics and African American studies from Harvard University. Sam is a leader of Rhodes Christian Fellowship and is passionate about the intersection of rigorous science and Christian faith.
