The aim of this series of events is to bring together a small group of academics and graduate students across the university interested in food issues (directly and indirectly). In this way we hope to provide an informal atmosphere for the stimulation and exchange of ideas and the building of collaborations.
The lunches are hosted by Linacre College in their Small Dining Room, an ideal venue for people with like-minded interests to gather and eat together in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere.

Each Food Thinkers lunch has a ‘theme’ and two speakers from across the University’s academic community – staff and graduate students – will speak briefly (5-10 minutes) on their work as it relates to the theme.
Jelena Jaric is undertaking her DPhil in Archaeology, titled “Warfare and Urban Transformation in the Late Antique Central Balkans (late 3rd – early 7th c. AD)”. As part of her research, she has explored the Roman empire’s food production system, and how dealt with food trade and food shortages in times of conflict. Her work is valuable in emphasising the dependence of certain areas of the world on food trade and the fragility of food systems in times of conflict.
