Antivirals, a lot has been achieved, yet a long way to go
Today highly potent antivirals are available for the treatment of infections with herpesviruses, HIV and the hepatitis B and C viruses. Some drugs are also available to treat infections with the influenza virus. However, for other viral infections, many of which are emerging and or neglected, no drugs are available. I will discuss our efforts in the field to develop novel antivirals and antiviral strategies.
