OxTalks is Changing
OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
Norms and Gender Inequality: Pathways and Limitations to Change in a Muslim Context
This talk will explore how social norms reproduce gender inequality, particularly in governance and politics, in patriarchal societies using Pakistan as an example. It will examine potential pathways for changing the status quo, considering the inherent ‘stickiness’ of inequality-creating social norms that tend to evolve slowly. Additionally, it will discuss the limitations of working within these norms and explore actions that can effectively shift them. The talk will synthesize findings from the author’s recent research on the subject.
