OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.

The TORCH Crisis, Extremes, and Apocalypse network are hosting a talk on ‘Sattelzeit as Endzeit? Making Sense of Catastrophic Change in the Nineteenth Century’ with Professor Joachim Whaley (University of Cambridge).
In many of the German lands the nineteenth century began with a series of catastrophes that destroyed lives and repeatedly shattered communities. For many commentators the memories of the French wars between 1792 and 1815 overshadowed their experience of the decades that followed, shaping their understanding of the historical process. The paper will explore this theme in relation to the thought of Hegel, Marx and Engels, and Jacob Burckhardt.
