OxTalks will soon be transitioning to Oxford Events (full details are available on the Staff Gateway). Literacy and foundation learning in multilingual India
In this lecture I will explore the opportunities and challenges afforded by the rich linguistic landscape that is India. I will examine theoretical accounts of literacy development with an eye on the visually distinct orthographies of the region and its unique architecture to capture spoken language. Pedagogical frameworks for supporting literacy development and the many gaps in research that still need addressing will be touched upon.
