British mountaineer Mick Fowler is the winner of three Piolet d’Ors, undoubtedly the most prestigious award in mountaineering. In this illustrated fundraising lecture for Community Action Nepal (CAN), Mick will talk about the challenges and excitement of making the first ascent of Gave Ding (6571m), with his fellow climber Paul Ramsden. Their groundbreaking climb on Gave Ding in October 2015 was in one of the remotest regions in Nepal, in a valley that had never been visited by westerners. Mick describes the ascent as a real adventure requiring both climbers to draw on gut instinct. In honour of their efforts both climbers were awarded the Piolet D’Or in 2016 for an unprecedented third time.
Mick Fowler and Paul Ramsden first won the Piolet d’Or in 2003 for opening up the North Face of Siguniang (6250m) in China, with awards in 2013 for their ascent of the Prow of Shiva in India.
