OxTalks will soon be transitioning to Oxford Events (full details are available on the Staff Gateway). A two-week publishing freeze is expected in early Hilary to allow all events to be migrated to the new platform. During this period, you will not be able to submit or edit events on OxTalks. Writing opinion articles for a public audience: a masterclass
For Early Career Researchers
Want to raise the profile of your research and engage with wider public audiences? Want to hone your writing skills and find out what makes an effective opinion article? This day-long, in-depth workshop will take you through pitching and writing opinion articles for public audiences.
It will give you the chance to discuss and get in-depth feedback on your ideas with an editor; get tips on pitching stories; get guidance on what makes a high quality opinion article and how to respond to comments.
OBJECTIVES: – Increase awareness of what The Conversation is – Increase awareness and understanding of how to get involved in The Conversation – Increase and reinforce understanding of concepts of writing effective opinion articles for the public – Provide bespoke guidance on writing high quality opinion articles – Increase awareness of what is required to pitch stories effectively – Top tips on dealing with (negative) comments
