OxTalks is Changing
OxTalks will soon be transitioning to Oxford Events (full details are available on the Staff Gateway). A two-week publishing freeze is expected in early Hilary to allow all events to be migrated to the new platform. During this period, you will not be able to submit or edit events on OxTalks. The exact freeze dates will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Book Talk - When We Ruled: The Rise and Fall of Twelve African Queens and Warriors by Paula Akpan
Join us as we welcome back pioneering historian and writer, Paula Akpan, for a special presentation of her new book, When We Ruled: The Rise and Fall of Twelve African Queens and Warriors. Paula will transport you across the African continent, from pre-colonial Nigeria to apartheid South Africa, sharing these powerful women’s stories of triumph, struggle, and lasting legacies. This event offers a unique opportunity to connect with these powerful historical figures, ending with an interactive Q&A and post-session signing. Unfortunately, copies of the book will NOT be available for purchase so please purchase them beforehand if you want it signed.
Paula Akpan (she/her) is a Black British historian and writer who gained a distinction in her fully funded MA in Black British History and who has credits in Vogue, Teen Vogue, The Independent, Stylist, VICE, i-D, Bustle, Time Out London and more. This is her much-anticipated debut book.
