In Conversation - Dr. Gail Lewis
Race & Resistance is pleased to welcome Dr. Gail Lewis, as our first speaker of Hilary term. Dr. Lewis will be speaking to our theme Black Queer Presence, discussing the subjectivities of Blackness and Queerness with our invited discussant, Sue Lemos (Warwick).

Bio: Gail Lewis (she/her/they) is Visiting Professor at Yale University and Reader Emerita in the Department of Psychosocial Studies at Birkbeck College. She is a Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist.

Gail has written, but is trying to become a writer; Gail likes to speak, but is still seeking her tonalities; Gail sometimes feels lonely, inept and scared; but Gail is brought into being in and by the company, care and joy of black/women of colour feminisms and queer knowings and livings.

Gail is also a season ticket holder for Arsenal soccer club.

Bio: Sue Lemos (she/they) is an ESRC funded PhD student in History at the University of Warwick. Their doctoral project seeks to illuminate the lives and politics of queer and trans Black people and people of colour in Britain, 1960s – 1990s. They received the inaugural Institute of Historical Research Olivette Otele Prize for their paper Queering Black Politics and the Warwick History MA Dissertation Prize for their research on the London Black Lesbian and Gay Centre (project), 1980s – 1990s. Prior to their PhD studies, they volunteered with the Young Historians Project and Haringey Vanguard Project.
