Synthetic control methods: introduction & overview of recent developments

Synthetic control methods build on the popular difference-in-differences method but use systematically more appealing comparisons to address bias in policy evaluation studies. This talk provides a non-technical introduction to the approach and discusses recent methodological developments in the synthetic control literature.
