Professor Gareth Bond is an Associate Member of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and is a molecular geneticist with research interests in genetics and genomics of cancer biology. Professor Bond studies the influence of genetic variants on the origins, progression and treatment of human cancer. His goal is to create genetic maps of these variants, and their abilities to serve as biomarkers in the clinic. His lab has been able to identify commonly inherited variants genetic variants such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with human cancer and has been using the well-defined p53 tumor suppressor network to study the potential impact of SNPs on cancer
