Seeking Asylum in Literature: Reclaiming the Refugee Narrative

Lur is an Iraqi and Australian writer, poet and playwright. In 2017 she won the Scribe Nonfiction Prize for Writers under 30, and was shortlisted for the Deborah Cass Prize for Migrant Writers. Her work has been widely published in Australia, including in Meanjin, the Lifted Brow, Kill Your Darlings and Going Down Swinging, among others, and her play was produced by ActNow Theatre. Lur is now pursuing her Master’s degree in Creative Writing at the University of Oxford, working on an essay collection of cultural criticism and memoir.

In this talk, Lur will discuss the place of the refugee author in their host country, and the reclamation of the refugee narrative.
