A rapid vaccine response to COVID-19: progress and prospects
We are pleased to host Professor Adrian Hill, who will be presenting his talk, “A rapid vaccine response to COVID-19: progress and prospects.” Professor Adrian Hill is the director of the Jenner Institute, co-director of the Oxford Martin Programme on Vaccines, and professor of Human Genetics at the University of Oxford. Previously, his research group conducted the first clinical trial of an Ebola vaccine and they developed one of the most promising potential vaccines for malaria which is currently in large scale clinical trials in sub-Saharan Africa. Recently, his laboratory group has pulled ahead in the worldwide race for a vaccine to stop the coronavirus. They have begun clinical trials and currently have plans to assess their COVID-19 vaccine on more than 6,000 people by the end of May. If proven effective, the first doses of the vaccine could be ready by September.
