Seminar by Dr Tom Cupedo "Stromal – Immune interactions in the multiple myeloma bone marrow"

Multiple myeloma (MM) is characterized by accumulation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow, where tumor cells are in close contact with stromal fibroblasts. Using single cell RNA-sequencing we generated transcriptional maps of MM cells and their stromal and immune microenvironments. This revealed the presence of inflammatory stromal fibroblasts and bone marrow inflammation. I will discuss the identity of the MM stromal cells, their possible impact on MM disease progression and the interactions between inflammatory stromal cells and innate immune cells leading to a pro-tumor bone marrow environment.
