Oxford and Colonialism: Then and Now
If you wish to attend this event, please email board.admin@history.ox.ac.uk as soon as possible, and let us know if you are an Undergrad, Masters or Doctoral student, a member of staff or otherwise a member of the Faculty.
You are warmly invited to participate in a History Faculty “teach-in”. The ethos of the event will be to encourage an inclusive, non-hierarchical discussion of a number of themes around the central subject, such that different views and perspectives are heard and acknowledged.

The participants at the event will be History Faculty students and staff, and each of the themes discussed will be co-facilitated by one student and one staff member.

The themes for discussion are:

Oxford and Colonialism “then”:
a) Oxford and Empire
b) The teaching of African History

Oxford and Colonialism “now”
c) “X must fall”; signage, symbols, portraiture
d) The lived experience of students now, curriculum and staffing

Tea and coffee will be available from 9.15am, and we will start the discussions at 9.30am, aiming to finish around 12 noon. A sandwich lunch will be available between 12 and 1
