Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. The two-week OxTalks freeze period starts on Monday 2nd March. During this time, there will be no facility to publish or edit events. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period. Dr Jon Whiteley joined the Museum in 1978 as Assistant Keeper in the Department of Western Art. In a career of 36 years at the Ashmolean, until 2014, he was a dedicated teacher to generations of Oxford students; one of the country’s most distinguished art historians; and a well-loved colleague and friend to everyone who knew and worked with him.
At this annual Beauforest lecture, Sir Nicholas Penny shares an account of the acquisitions made by Jon, together with recollections of events and initiatives in the Department in the second half of the 1980s in which Jon played a part.
