Exhibition: From parchment to print: illuminated medieval manuscripts and early printing at Wadham College Library
Members of the University of Oxford and the general public are warmly invited to our medieval manuscripts exhibition (combined with an art exhibition), entitled: ‘From parchment to print: illuminated medieval manuscripts and early printing at Wadham College Library’. The exhibition has been guest-curated by Wadham English student and Wadham SU Arts Officer Annabel Brodersen.
What will be on display: 6 beautiful medieval illuminated manuscripts, ranging in date from the 11th to the 16th century, as well as an early printed edition of the works of Geoffrey Chaucer. We will also display photographs of another 7 books, including 5 medieval manuscripts and two early printed books that are in Wadham’s collections.
Accompanying the above will be original artwork by Wadham’s Art Club, and others, directly inspired by the manuscripts on display.
Captions for each manuscript by expert Dr Peter Kidd (formerly of the British Library) and Annabel – who also designed and drew the beautiful poster above!
We will also be playing a short film showing experts, including the late Professor Richard Sharpe, discussing four of the books in the room. And we will be playing a slideshow that will reveal some of the other pages from the books (i.e. other than the pages we will have the books open at).
