Rana Mitter on the Global Thought of Chiang Kai-Shekh

DPIR, CIS, St Cross College at Oxford present the Global Thinkers of the International Discussion Series. Join Professor Rana Mitter this Wednesday to discuss the global international thought of one of the most controversial figures in modern Chinese history – Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang was a politician and military leader who served as the leader of the Republic of China between 1928 and 1975, first in mainland China until 1949 and then in exile in Taiwan. Departing from the usual International Relations approach of studying China after Mao, this session traces the global intellectual thought of the architect of a different vision of China as a nation, and its role in the world.

Rana is Professor of History and Politics of Modern China, Director of the Oxford’s China Centre and Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford.
