West African Women’s Movements in Global Feminist History
This presentation explores West African women’s movements in the mid-20th century, and their contributions to global feminist history. Focusing on figures such as Mabel Dove and West African women’s organisations like the Federation for Gold Coast Women and the Sierra Leone Women’s Movement, this talk explores how Black women’s internationalism intersected with and contributed to international feminist networks in the mid-twentieth century. This presentation offers a fresh perspective on the interconnectedness of local and global feminist movements, highlighting the significance of West African women in shaping broader historical narratives.
