SolidariTee Conference 2021: Tackling the injustices perpetuated against refugees

Saturday 6 Feb, 09:00 – Sunday 7 Feb, 17:00 (UTC)

Bringing together a diverse lineup of speakers covering topics ranging from the media’s depiction of refugees to mental health challenges as a result of forced displacement, the SolidariTee Conference aims to provide an action-focused weekend on 6-7th February 2021. United by a commitment to refugee rights but with differing areas of expertise, our programme of accessible talks and panel discussions will allow people with different levels of prior knowledge around refugee issues to connect virtually.

Tickets are available now and can be reserved on a donation basis, with a £5 suggested minimum donation to SolidariTee. 100% of the proceeds will be used to fund our grants for NGOs providing legal aid to asylum seekers. We believe strongly that access to education should be without financial barriers, so if this minimum donation would not be possible for any reason, please email outreach@solidaritee.org.uk.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Essam Daod, psychiatrist & co-founder of Humanity Crew, an international aid organisation specialising in the provision of first response mental health interventions to people in crises
  • Philip Worthington, managing director of European Lawyers in Lesvos
  • Tiara Sahar Ataii, founder of SolidariTee
  • Mathilda Mallinson, multimedia journalist, filmmaker & co-founder of the Refugee Media Centre
  • Sophie Kloos, director at Asylos, an organisation that creates evidence-based reports on refugees’ countries of origin to support their asylum claims, ensuring that asylum decisions are based on proper evidence as opposed to preconceptions
  • Mina Fazel, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford, who has been working for over a decade developing mental health services for refugee children
  • Hiba Salem, research associate at the University of Cambridge, studying the education provision for refugee children in Jordan
