'Game of Zones' for Sustainable Urban Development

Abstract:
Public participation in urban planning and design process is crucial for achieving sustainable urban development. However, how to attract the communities and how to build consensus among the stakeholders on a sustainable vision have been challenging to policy makers and planners. ‘Game of Zones’ is such a tool that aims to address the challenges.

Speaker:
Thomas Kraubitz is the Associate Director of BuroHappold Engineering. He is a designer for integrated development planning, strategic planning, energy concepts, green industrialisation and corporate sustainability in Central Europe and beyond. A key aspect of his work is enhancing the industrial consulting and sustainability offer including strategic and economic aspects. For the BuroHappold offices in Germany and Denmark, he is also leading the work on various certification schemes including LEED, BREEAM, DGNB on the building and urban district scale.

Thomas Kraubitz studied architecture at Coburg University in Germany and urban planning at Tongji University in Shanghai and the MIT followed by a Masters degree with Distinction from Harvard University GSD. He was a Fulbright Scholar at Harvard and gained practical experience in renowned international planning and design firms based in Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Stuttgart, Boston, Copenhagen and Hanoi prior to joining BuroHappold.
