Conversation with Eric Vuillard

Eric Vuillard was born in 1968. He is a distinguished French author, filmmaker and screenwriter. He was awarded the Franz-Hessel prize in 2012 and has since won the 2017 prix Goncourt for his book The Order of the Day (Actes Sud, 2017). His novel The War of the Poor is shortlisted for the International Booker Prize.

His most recent publication An honorable exit (published in 2022 and translated into English in 2023 by Mark Polizzotti) focuses on Indochina in the 1950s and the build-up to the Vietnamese war.

He will be in conversation with Ann Jefferson and will discuss topics that include the intricacies of writing History.

Ann Jefferson (New College) has written widely on French literature and is the translator of Vuillard’s Sorrow of the Earth (Pushkin Press, 2016).
