Respiratory consequence of preterm birth: Challenges and implications into adulthood
Most babies born preterm now survive into adulthood with a respiratory burden that has been stubbornly hard to reduce, and is often under-appreciated. Prof Tingay will discuss the respiratory trajectory from preterm birth to adulthood and how early life definitions have hampered prevention. Alternative approaches that better phenotype the onset of neonatal lung injury and allow linkage with later life-source will be proposed.
David Tingay is a Neonatologist, University Professor at the University of Melbourne and Group Leader of Neonatal Research at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute. He leads an integrated program on basic science, lung imaging, cohort studies and clinical trials in lung protective strategies for neonates.
