Ecosystem services: from mapping to markets

Status: This talk is in preparation - details may change

Dr. Peter Long is an environmental scientist and James Martin Research Fellow at the Biodiversity Institute in the Department of Zoology. Dr. Long?s research focuses on generating spatially-explicit information on land cover, biodiversity and ecosystem services, to inform land management and conservation strategies. Such projects include LEFT, a decision-support tool that maps relative ecological value across a landscape, and NaturEtrade, an initiative that seeks to develop a market in ecosystem services, by compensating land-owners for conserving ecosystem processes on their property. Dr. Long?s research interests also include the application of GIS and remote sensing to address ecological questions, the development of biodiversity monitoring techniques, and conservation capacity building and training.
