Book presentation: 'The Global Encyclopaedia of Informality, Volume 3'
Organised by Russian and East European Studies (REES)
Prof Alena Ledeneva (UCL SSEES) will be presenting the third volume of her Global Encyclopedia of Informality, published with UCL Press.
The event will form part of a series of book launches at leading universities, including one at Harvard, the College of Europe, and UCL.
The Encyclopaedia is the first attempt to catalogue informal practices across the globe. It features entries from 500+ authors across the world, including, as well as Alena Ledeneva, Nicolette Makovicky, and the late Elizabeth Teague. At present, the Encyclopedia has been downloaded more than 135,000 times, while also counting 5000 unique monthly visits.
Thus, the Encyclopaedia constitutes an essential read for anyone interested in the informal operation of society in any given country or on a comparative basis. We further hope to encourage additional future entries, through the launch.
