Past the 11th Hour - How Britain Must Transform as the Global Security Order Crumbles
The UK faces the gravest security environment since the Second World War, and yet its institutions remain unable to fully adapt to the seriousness of the challenge. It is clear that we are no longer in a time of peace, but the political incentives to adequately project deterrence to our adversaries, and prepare the nation for the realities of what could come, are failing to drive transformative change. In this seminar, geopolitical analyst and external adviser to the British Government, Sophia Gaston, will explain why we have passed the ‘11th hour’ warnings in the security order, the profound consequences of inaction, and how Britain can and must respond to ensure we defend our interests in the battle of the century.
Sophia Gaston is a British foreign policy researcher and geopolitical analyst, focused on the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security theatres. She is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Statecraft and National Security in the Department of War Studies at King’s College London, and a Senior Adviser to The Asia Group. Sophia advises the British Government as an external challenge partner and policy expert. Her research explores how best Britain can advance its core strategic interests, reinvigorate its closest alliances, and harness its instruments of national power to respond to the pernicious influence of authoritarian states like China and Russia.
