On 28th November OxTalks will move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events' (full details are available on the Staff Gateway).
There will be an OxTalks freeze beginning on Friday 14th November. This means you will need to publish any of your known events to OxTalks by then as there will be no facility to publish or edit events in that fortnight. During the freeze, all events will be migrated to the new Oxford Events site. It will still be possible to view events on OxTalks during this time.

Finance, Reality and Morality: Rethinking a broken system

Why does the financial system work so much less well than every other part of the modern economy? In This series of seminars at the Las Casas Institute, Blackfriars Hall, Edward Hadas will expose to public gaze the inner workings of the financial system, its inherent weaknesses and irrationality, and discuss how the system might be fixed.
Topics: Oct. 18: What is money? How does is serve the social good? How does it detract from it?
Oct. 25: What is finance? The social bond, the debate on returns, the departure from reality.
Nov. 1: Greed in finance – pervasive, promoted and pernicious
Nov. 8: A new financial order (I): Education, very narrow money, reality-closeness
Nov 15: A new financial order (II): Profit maximisation, pensions, debt vs. equity
Edward Hadas is a financial journalist, long-time finance analyst and author of Human Goods, Economic Evils: A Moral Approach to the Dismal Science (ISI Books 2007).
