OxTalks will soon be transitioning to Oxford Events (full details are available on the Staff Gateway). A two-week publishing freeze is expected in early Hilary to allow all events to be migrated to the new platform. During this period, you will not be able to submit or edit events on OxTalks. In this lecture-recital, Heloisa Feichas and Rita Medeiros will present an overview of the rich legacy of Brazilian popular songs. In a journey through sinuous melodic lines and complex harmonies, supported by the strength of rythms in genres such as samba, frevo, and choro, the songs reveal colorful sounds and evoke landscapes and scenes from Brazilian life. The recital features icons such as Noel Rosa, Tom Jobim, Edu Lobo, Chico Buarque, Dori Caymmi, Jonny Alf, Guinga, Francis Hime and Gilberto Gil, who will be represented in this panorama in a unique and very rich blend between poetry and music.
