Nuffield Department of Women’s & Reproductive Health, Diversity Week 2020

Clara works as Materials Scientist in the Department of Materials, University of Oxford. Clara is a trained mentor for LGBT. She manages the Centre for Applied Superconductivity, part of local Pride committees, supports local LGBT youth and won the Points of Light Award from the PM in 2017 for raising awareness of LGBT issues within the University and beyond.

In her talk, Dr Clara Barker will talk about the inequality in academia, and particularly in STEMM fields, that are faced by researchers of different groups. Clara will start by explaining the terms she will use before using her own experience to highlight issues faced specifically by the LGBTI+ community, talk about why these issues are of concern to academia and research and also show examples of diversity being good for science.
