Jane Goodall is interested in the responses of immune cells to pathogens and inflammatory stimuli and how they are modified by the activation of cellular stress pathways. The ER stress pathway allows the cell to adapt to stimuli that alter the protein folding capacity of the ER but recent data suggest that signals from the ER contribute significantly to activation of inflammasomes and induction of proinflammatory cytokines. Jane Goodall is investigating critical nodes of the pathway and how they may influence inflammation and disease.
