The business case for climate resilience in water projects on the African continent

How do you integrate climate resilience into water projects? Based on work with the African Development bank and studies of the economics of climate adaptation in Eastern Africa, this talk explores strategies and actions to increase resilience. The business case recognizes the role of specific actors, including the private sector, in shaping the development pathway for major infrastructural development

About the speaker:
Dr Thomas E. Downing is the President of the Global Climate Adaptation Partnership (GCAP). Over his career he has held a number of influential positions, including advisor to the United Nations Environment Programme and recently the Munich Re Foundation Chair for social vulnerability. In his 30 years of experience working in the field of adaptation and vulnerability he has led numerous project, his most recent being the EC ClimateCost project.

Tom has authored over 100 publications, including the Atlas of Climate Change. He is currently director of an adaptation mainstreaming project for the African Development Bank and previously worked with the World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank.

Tom received his PhD in Geography from Clark University.
