Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. The two-week OxTalks freeze period starts on Monday 2nd March. During this time, there will be no facility to publish or edit events. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period. Are you interested in alternatives to the academic career path? If you’re exploring (or decided on) a career outside academia, but you need some pointers on how to take your plan forward, this workshop will get you started.
During the session we will look at tools and strategies for identifying attractive roles and understanding what a job really entails, whilst also considering the importance of knowing your own skill set and preferred parameters and using that knowledge to shape your job search.
Workshop objectives:
Identify appropriate tools to clarify your personal skill set and work preferences
Learn about employers’ views on researchers, and key skills sought by typical sectors of interest
Discover strategies for investigating career options in a structured way
Understand common patterns of transition from academia, and your own rationale for making the move.
