OxTalks will soon move to the new Halo platform and will become 'Oxford Events.' There will be a need for an OxTalks freeze. This was previously planned for Friday 14th November – a new date will be shared as soon as it is available (full details will be available on the Staff Gateway).
In the meantime, the OxTalks site will remain active and events will continue to be published.
If staff have any questions about the Oxford Events launch, please contact halo@digital.ox.ac.uk
In “AI and the Military: Beyond Autonomous Weapons to Strategic Enterprise Transformation,” we explore the expansive role of AI in military operations beyond the narrow scope of Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (AWS). This presentation delves into the broad applications of AI in enhancing warfighting capabilities, strategic decision-making, and organizational efficiency across various military functions. It emphasizes the importance of human-AI value alignment, particularly under the ethical and legal frameworks of the Laws of Armed Conflict (LOAC), and discusses the risks and challenges of integrating AI into high-stakes military environments. Drawing parallels with civilian industries and leveraging the U.S. Army’s warfighting functions as a framework, the presentation navigates the potential for AI to revolutionize military strategy, planning, and execution while highlighting the imperative of cautious and ethical implementation.
