The Pentagon, Climate Change, and War

We are delighted to invite you to our seventh event of Michaelmas 2022, which will take place on Tuesday, November 22, in the Old Library at All Souls College at 8:30pm. As always, there will be a wine reception prior to the event, starting at 8pm. The speaker will be Neta Crawford, who will be speaking to us on ‘The Pentagon, Climate Change, and War’.

Professor Neta Crawford is currently serving as the Montague Burton Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford and as a Professorial Fellow at Balliol College. She previously served as the chair of the Department of Political Science at Boston University. She co-founded and is a co-director of the Costs of War Project, which facilitates public debate about the costs of post-9/11 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. She has testified before a special hearing in the US Congress on the war in Afghanistan and before the Massachusetts State Legislature on the costs of war.
Professor Crawford has authored dozens of scholarly articles and op-eds that have appeared in International Security, Ethics and International Affairs, The Washington Post, and the Huffington Post. She has also published a number of books, including Accountability for Killing: Moral Responsibility for Collateral Damage in America’s Post-9/11 Wars (2013) and Argument and Change in World Politics: Ethics, Decolonization, Humanitarian Intervention (2002). She is currently working on To Make Heaven Weep: Civilians and the American Way of War. At the event on Tuesday, Professor Crawford will be discussing the topic of her most recent publication, The Pentagon, Climate Change, and War (2022).

Main access to the Old Library is via a steep staircase. Arrangements can be made for those with limited mobility to use a stairlift and a Fellow’s room to gain access. Please let us know as soon as possible if you require this type of assistance. Capacity is limited so please arrive early.

A £2 fee for attendance is kindly requested for all non-members of OUSSG. If you need to renew your membership, you can do so on our website or at the door. The event can also be found on our Facebook page.
