Part of the Oxford Shorts 2025: Film Festival
The Commandant’s Shadow tells the story of the aftermath of atrocity. It follows the son and grandson of the Commandant of Auschwitz as well as a survivor and her daughter as they seek to come to terms with the past, and with each other… an exploration of how events that happened eight decades ago can produce shockwaves that ripple down the generations. Set in the present, it follows the protagonists as they deal with trauma, guilt and moral ambiguity. Join the director Daniela Völker, executive producers Gloria Abramoff and Wendy Robins and Production Manager Laura Jones for an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at this eye-opening film.
The main festival runs from Friday 4 April to Sunday 6 April. All films will be screened in the Auditorium at St John’s, many of which will be followed by Q&As.
