Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. The two-week OxTalks freeze period starts on Monday 2nd March. During this time, there will be no facility to publish or edit events. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period. A workshop outlining some of the key principles to bear in mind when working with sensitive or restricted research data obtained from a third party source such as a data archive. This session will also be of interest to those creating data they consider sensitive or confidential, who want to know how best to go about it. Examples of scenarios drawn from the research of participants are particularly welcome. The role of support services at Oxford will also be outlined and in particular the role of the Bodleian Data Librarian.
The session will cover: key best practice principles when working with sensitive or restricted research data; issues around creating original data; informed consent agreements; maximising the usage potential of data; key strategies for protecting data including embargoes, vetting and restrictions; archived data and conditions of access.
