History of the Litchfield Lecture:
Litchfield Lecturers are appointed in pursuance of a trust established by the Third Earl of Litchfield in the reign of George III, under which a sum of money was bequeathed to the University on condition that the income be used to provide clinical instruction for members of the University. The Medical Sciences Board administers the trust and currently appoints one or more distinguished persons to deliver a Litchfield Lecture in Oxford each year.
