The Waste Land After One Hundred Years: A Roundtable

Week 7 (Wednesday 8th June): The Waste Land After One Hundred Years: A Roundtable
A centenary celebration including two seminar panels and a group reading of the poem, chaired by Professor Steven Matthews (University of Reading)

The Modern and Contemporary Literature Research Seminar’s final event of the 2021-22 academic year will be taking place on Wednesday 8 June from 4-7pm. For this closing event, we are holding a special session to mark the centenary of T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land (1922), which will consist of a reading of Eliot’s poem followed by two seminar panels discussing the poem and its afterlives.

The event is organised in collaboration with Professor Steven Matthews (University of Reading) who has just edited a new essay collection The Waste Land after One Hundred Years, which will be published by Boydell & Brewer in July of this year. Speakers at the event include: Professor Rebecca Beasley (The Queen’s College, Oxford), Dr William Davies (Reading), Professor Marjorie Perloff (Stanford), Professor Andrew Michael Roberts (Dundee), and Professor Peter Robinson (Reading).

The event will be taking place in the Old Library at All Souls College from 4-7pm and will be followed by a drinks reception from 7-8pm in the Great Quad. You can also attend it online on Zoom. Since there are only a limited number of seats available, please register in advance on Eventbrite if you are planning to attend the event using the following link: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-waste-land-after-one-hundred-years-a-roundtable-tickets-341854906227
