This talk is being held as part of the Evidence-Based Diagnosis & Screening module which is part of the MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Dr Helen Ashdown is a GP and clinical researcher in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, University of Oxford. She has led several diagnostic studies in the last few years, including testing accuracy of immunisation history-taking in the Emergency Department, shop-bought breathalysers in Oxford pubs and college bars, and pain over speed bumps in the diagnosis of appendicitis, for which she was awarded the prestigious(?) Ig Nobel Prize for Diagnostic Medicine in 2015. In this talk she will give a flavour of what was involved in some of these rather different, but nonetheless important, and enormously fun, diagnostic studies.
