The Tinbergen Society is once again delighted to welcome Professor Sir John Gurdon FRS, world-renowned developmental biologist, to Merton College to speak about his greatest work. Professor Gurdon has over his career pioneered the field of developmental biology, most notably with his famous experiments of nuclear transplantation in Xenopus frogs, and the discovery that mature cells could be reprogrammed into stem cells. He started as a student at Oxford, spent time at CalTech and then settled in Cambridge, where he co-founded the Institute that now bears his name.

As recipient of the Royal Medal, the International Prize for Biology, the Wolf Prize, the Lasker Award, and of course the 2012 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine, Professor Gurdon has built a huge reputation, and the Society is privileged to host him.
