Oxford Events, the new replacement for OxTalks, will launch on 16th March. The two-week OxTalks freeze period starts on Monday 2nd March. During this time, there will be no facility to publish or edit events. The existing OxTalks site will remain available to view during this period. Gi-Wook Shin is the William J. Perry Professor of Contemporary Korea in Sociology and a senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University. His research explores nationalism, development, democratisation, and international relations in Korea and Asia. He has authored or edited 27 books,
including The Four Talent Giants (Stanford University Press, 2025). Before joining Stanford, he taught at Iowa and UCLA. Shin holds a BA from Yonsei University and an MA and PhD from the University of Washington.
